Men’s and Women’s Swimming Defeat Drew in Season Opener

  • Short Story: The Stevens Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming teams totaled 11 individual victories and four relay wins en route to a season-opening triumph over Drew University.

Top Performers

  • The Ducks opened the day with a second-place finish in the women's 200-yard medley relay. Senior Caroline Shusta and freshmen Audrey Fanning, Madie DeJong and Katelyn Chen combined for a 1:58.89 finish.
  • In the following event, the relay team of juniors Tyler Zanki and Trevor Hinds along with sophomores Blake Holland and Kurt von Autenried were the first to finish in the men's 200-yard medley relay, touching the wall in 1:35.95.
  • Zanki, Hinds and von Autenried also collected individual wins for Stevens. Zanki finished at 59.56 in the men's 100-yard breaststroke, Hinds completed the men's 100-yard freestyle at 47.91 seconds and von Autenried touched the wall first in the men's 100-yard butterfly (51.88).
  • Junior Isabella Fairman earned the first individual victory for the women, finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:54.21). The Saint Paul, Minn. native was also victorious in the women's 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 54.83 seconds.
  • Senior Sam Fuller finished first in the men's 1000 yard freestyle, touching the wall at 10:21.00. Fuller also earned first place points in the men's 100-yard backstroke (53.89).
  • The next individual victory for the Ducks came from sophomore Theodore Jagodits in the men's 200-yard freestyle, completing the event at 1:57.49.
  • Senior Sam Geyer earned her first individual win of the night in the women's 200-yard IM, finishing with a time of 2:16,74. The Brunswick, Ohio native also grabbed first place points in the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.34). 
  • The Ducks closed the meet with back-to-back first place finishes in both the men and women's 200-yard freestyle relay. The women's quartet of Fairman, Geyer, sophomore Isabelle Rivera and senior Courtney Jones completed the race with a time of 1:42.25. The men's grouping of Hinds, Jagodits, von Autenried, and junior Jonas Lackey touched the wall five seconds before their opponents at 1:27.45.
