Short Story: Freshman Makenna Sargis earned a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, but the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team fell to the University of Scranton, 8-1, Sunday in the 2018 spring season opener.

How It Happened

Scranton won all three doubles flights to take an early 3-0 lead in the match.
Julia Frattoroli and Nastashia DeNunzio topped sophomores Julia Earl and Isabella Calandra 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to open the match.
The Royals claimed an 8-2 win at third doubles and an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles complete the sweep.
Scranton earned wins at third and fourth singles before Sargis' 6-4, 6-2 victory put Stevens on the board.
Lindsay Roberto topped junior Sydney Zoretic at sixth singles (6-2, 7-5) for the match-clinching point.
Earl fell to Frattaroli at first singles and junior Victoria Piskarev dropped a hard-fought, three-set match at second singles to round out the scoring.
