Fredericksburg, Va. – The Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team opened the three-day ITA Atlantic South Region Championship on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior
Sude Aytekin won her opening match in the Championship Flight. She dispatched Tuva Fink of Virginia Wesleyan 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round. The junior fell 6-0, 6-2 to Divya Venkatarama of Carnegie Mellon.
Alix Dry also competed in the Championship Flight but fell 6-2-6-4 to No. 9 seed Grace Lorenz of Washington & Lee.
Emma Eguia battled Sahana Sanjeev of Johns Hopkins University in the Blue 1 Flight, dropping a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Julianna Gomez also had a match in the Blue 1 Flight, falling 6-2, 6-4 to Lara Geib of Swarthmore.
Wei-Wei Lai was the lone competitor in the Blue 2 Flight but fell 6-1, 6-2 to Madeline Posner of Swarthmore.
Milagros Carbajal Diaz took down Fleur Gaalman of Randolph College 6-1, 6-3 in the Round of 16 in the Blue 3 Flight. Carbajal Diaz was upended 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) in the quarterfinals by Sofia Sperandei of Washington College.
The Ducks had two teams competing in the Championship Flight of doubles. Dry and
Stephanie Untermeyer, who earned the No. 9 seed and a bye, took down Lindsey Berglin and Kendal Chang of Haverford 8-4. The duo Aytekin and Carbajal Diaz fell 8-2 to Washington College's Eva Kading and Soleil Namunyola.
