Kanz, Andhare Advance to Round of 32 at ITA Regionals

Fredericksburg, Va. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team advanced a pair of competitors into the Round of 32 of the Championship Singles Draw on the opening day of the ITA Men's Southeast Regional Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Samvid Andhare was the first Duck to punch his ticket into the Round of 32, cruising past Evan Fisher of Mary Washington 6-1, 6-2. Andhare will next face ninth-seeded Mukundh Boopathi of Johns Hopkins University in the top half of the bracket at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Max-William Kanz, seeded ninth, needed three sets to secure his place in the next round. Kanz edged Ayaan Choudhary of Virginia Wesleyan 7-5 in the opening set before dropping the second 6-1. The senior rebounded in the decisive third set, pulling away for a 10-5 win to join Andhare in the Round of 32. He will square off with Jacob Martin of Randolph College at 11:30 a.m.

Ian Batra faced a tough test in fifth-seeded Max Lindstrom of Swarthmore and was dealt a 6-4, 6-3 setback to fall into the Consolation Round. Batra will meet Emerson Rice of Hampden-Sydney College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
