New York, N.Y. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team opened the 2025 NYU Invitational and finished the first day of competition in second place with 91 points.
After the opening night of competition, Stevens sat second in the team standings with 91 points, behind NYU (160) and ahead of Drew (88).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Will Stibor led the way with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching in 21.48 seconds to post Stevens' top individual result of the night.
Leo Timmermann followed close behind in fifth at 21.56, while Sebastien Nappi (22.10), Amadeo Bove (22.28), and
Niall Easton (22.68) rounded out a strong showing for Stevens in the sprint.
Cooper Moffatt delivered another high finish for the Ducks, placing fourth in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.89. Teammates
Ethan Emerton (2:02.15) and
Angel Velasquez (2:02.43) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, with
Lukas Mikulenas (2:03.16) and
Gailen Davis (2:05.49) also scoring within the top 15.
The Ducks' relays were equally strong. The 400 medley relay team of Emerton, Velasquez, Bove, and Easton took second overall in 3:33.25, just ahead of Drew's "A" relay. Earlier in the session, the 200 freestyle relay of
Matthew Beaney, Velasquez, Nappi, and Stibor placed fourth in 1:27.20, while the group of Davis, Easton, Emerton, and Timmermann finished fifth in 1:27.72 .
In the distance events,
Andrew Gaba led the Ducks with a tenth-place time of 4:56.82 in the 500 freestyle, followed by
Kyle Phillips (11th, 4:58.07),
Kerem Dogruer (14th, 5:00.71), and
Yusuf Tokuz (16th, 5:03.63),
Jonah Beth (17th, 5:05.88), and
Patrick Cortelli (18th, 5:07.98).
