Hoboken, N.J. – Stevens Institute of Technology Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
Gene Peluso will be inducted into the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame it was announced on Monday.
Peluso will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, N.J. on July 22.
A 1987 graduate of Baldwin High School (NY) and a 1991 graduate of Nazareth College, Peluso began his collegiate coaching journey as an assistant at Drew University under legendary coach Tom Leanos from 1994 to 1995. He soon launched a head coaching career that would cement his legacy as one of the most accomplished figures in NCAA lacrosse history.
Over the course of his head coaching tenure, Peluso amassed an extraordinary career record of 345–151, ranking third among active NCAA Division III coaches, seventh among active coaches across all divisions, and within
the top 17 all-time across all NCAA divisions. His tenure at Stevens Institute of Technology stands out in particular. There, he compiled a program-best 216–72 record and led the Ducks to a remarkable .750 career winning percentage, making him the winningest coach in program history.
Peluso's legacy extends well beyond wins and titles. Under his leadership, he had guided:
- 140+ USILA All-Americans
- 120+ USILA Scholar All-Americans
- 250+ Conference All-Stars
Coaching Honors:
- Conference Coach of the Year: 11 seasons (1999, 2004, 2006, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2021–2025)
- IMLCA Northeast Coach of the Year: 2018
Leadership & Service to the Sport:
- Chairman, NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championships (2020–2022)
- Member, NCAA Lacrosse Championship Committee (2018–2022)
- Member, NCAA Regional Advisory Committee (2004–2008, 2014–2018)
- Member, USILA All-American Committee (1998–2001, 2004–2008, 2011–2015, 2019–present)
On the international stage, Peluso coached Team Italy at the 2006 World Games, sharing his expertise globally. A passionate advocate for growing the game, Peluso has also donated significant time and resources to developing youth lacrosse in Hoboken, NJ, and in his hometown of Branchburg, NJ, along with surrounding communities. His profound influence on the sport, dedication to student-athlete development, and unparalleled record of sustained success make him a deserving and celebrated inductee into the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
