Swarthmore, Pa. – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team battled Vassar College and Swarthmore College during the opening day of the Haverford/Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Vassar)
The Ducks split their four doubles matches with the Brewers. At the top of the lineup,
Max-William Kanz and
Renat Kramin came away with an 8-4 triumph, while
Ian Batra and
Tristan Wroe earned an 8-6 victory at the No. 3 flight.
Samvid Andhare and
Dhaivik Chenemilla were edged 8-6 at No. 2, and
Elias Alkio and Johnny Hasse dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 4.
In singles play, Batra posted a straight-set win at the No. 4 flight, 6-3, 7-5. Chenemilla and Andhare both rebounded from their doubles setbacks with victories, as Chenemilla won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 and Andhare registered a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 2. Kanz stretched his opponent to three sets at the top of the lineup, taking the opening frame 6-4 before falling 6-1 in the second and narrowly dropping the third-set tiebreak 11-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Swarthmore)
Andhare provided the Ducks' lone victory against the Garnet, prevailing 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Kramin and Chenemilla were topped by identical 6-4, 6-2 margins at No. 4 and No. 5, while Wroe dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 6.
In doubles play, Kanz and Kramin pushed the top flight to a breaker before being clipped 9-8 (7-5). Chenemilla and Andhare were edged 8-6 at No. 2, and the tandem of Batra and Wroe fell 8-3 at No. 3.

The Ducks open their home slate on October 11, welcoming Moravian University to the Bayonne Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for noon.
