HOBOKEN, N.J. (October 26, 2019) – Senior
Tyler Zanki won both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard freestyle relay team also picked up a victory as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's swimming team fell 171-91 Saturday against No. 22 The College of New Jersey at DeBaun Aquatic Center.
Zanki, the reigning Empire 8 Swimmer of the Year, set the DeBaun Aquatic Center pool record for the 100-yard breast with a time of 57.67 and has now won all four individual events he has swam in this year as the Ducks fell to 1-1 overall in dual meets this season.
The Lions, meanwhile, picked up a total of 10 individual victories on the day as they improve to 1-0 on the young campaign.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of
Kurt von Autenried,
Daniel Rosenberger,
Michael Shusta and
Theodore Jagodits combined to touch the wall in 3:12.28, beating TCNJ by less than .4 of a second.
Top Performers
- In the 100-yard breaststroke, Zanki registered a season-best time of 57.67 to win the event by over three seconds.
- The senior from Wyckoff, New Jersey, followed it up by touching the wall in 2:11.33 to grab the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- In the 400-free relay, von Autenried was able to give the Ducks an early lead, swimming a 48.16 in the opening leg. After Rosenberger and Shusta were able to maintain the edge for the Ducks, Jagodits brought home the victory, besting Harrison Yi of TCNJ.
- Along with Zanki, Chris Rudel was also effective in the meet, finishing behind only Zanki in the 200-breaststroke with a final time of 2:15.01.
- Ali Kolenovic, Daniel Hold and Chaithanya Dasari finished in second, third and fourth with times of 55.20, 55.91 and 55.93, respectively in the 100-yard backstroke.
- von Autenried earned a runner-up finish in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:00.31 and 51.97, respectively.
- Jagodits was just .11 seconds from taking home a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, producing a time of 47.88 for second place.
