HOBOKEN, N.J. (Jan. 25, 2021) – Under the leadership of current Director of Athletics Russell Rogers, who is in his 21st year in the position, the Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics has risen to unprecedented levels of success.

Under Rogers' leadership, Stevens has finished inside the top 45 in the DIII College Directors' Cup standings 11 consecutive years including a program-best 13th-place finish in both 2010-11 and 2015-16. The Ducks also won the Jostens Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Institution of the Year Award in both 2007-08 and 2012-13, while also finishing as the Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey DIII Cup Winner in seven of the last 10 years.

The Department of Athletics will look back into the archives to reflect on the development's evolution under Rogers. Each week, key moments will be highlighted that happened "This Week in Stevens History."

The week of January 25-31
Jan. 25, 2020 – Wrestling Rallies from Behind to Knock of No. 6 Johnson & Wales at Stevens Quad
Trailing 15-6 early in the dual, the Stevens wrestling team got four straight victories from Troy Stanich, Brett Kaliner, Dylan Van Sickell and Thomas Poklikuha to come from behind and defeat No. 6 Johnson & Wales 21-15.

Stanich, who was ranked #2/#1 at 141 at the time, started the comeback as he won by decision 6-1. Kaliner (#1/#1) followed it up with a dominant effort at 149 and won by technical fall 28-9 to cut the overall dual score to 15-14.

Facing off against #7/#8 Da'Mani Burns of J&W, #10/NR Van Sickell picked up possibly the most crucial win of the event at 157 as he took home a 9-2 decision to put the Ducks on top 17-15. Pokliuha (#8/NR) rounded out the dual with a 13-4 major decision to give Stevens four points and seal the win 21-15.

Jan. 26, 2020 – Women's Fencing Pushes School-Record Winning Streak to 21
After losing their first bout of the year against Wellesley College, the Stevens women's fencing program went on a run like they had never done before, rattling off a program record 21 consecutive bout victories culminating in a pair of dominant wins at the University of New Hampshire Invitational.

The Ducks started the day with a perfect 27-0 victory over UNH and followed it up with a nearly perfect 26-1 win over Worchester Polytechnic Institute. Stevens knocked off formidable foes such a Drew, Incarnate Word (DI), Wagner (DI) and Cleveland State (DI) in the streak.

The previous record for consecutive wins was 16 set back in the 2017-18 season. The wins also put Stevens over the 20-win plateau for the 10th straight season.

Jan. 26, 2008 – Women's Track and Field Breaks Five Program Records at Army Invite
Salme Cook had a historic debut for the Stevens women's indoor track and field program as she broke three total program records as a part of a historic day for the team. In total, the Ducks broke five school records in one meet at the Army Invitational.

Cook, who still holds a pair of indoor records, established a new Stevens-best in the 200 and 500-meter dash with times of 28.61 and 1:24.57, respectively. She was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team also consisting of Sara Amitrani, Jamie Brabston and Melissa Franzese that ran a time of 4:47.58 to break the record set one season prior.

Additionally, Amitrani broke a pair of school records in both the mile run with a time of 5:35.00 and the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:36.18.  

Jan. 26, 2004 – Women's Basketball Drops NY Maritime 69-13, The Fewest Points Allowed in Program History
The women's basketball team played lights out defense in a dominant win over New York Maritime to establish a program record for points allowed in a game as they downed the Privateers 69-13. The Ducks limited to Maritime to 10.2 percent (5 for 49) from the floor and forced 33 turnovers in the win.

Jaime Mehnert led the way for Stevens in the win, outscoring the Privateers by herself with a career-high 19 points. Aracely Cruz also outscored the entire Maritime team with 14 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and five steals.

Jan. 27, 2018 – Cook's Efficient Night Leads Men's Basketball to Win and Sole Possession of First Place
Spencer Cook, one of the top scorers in Stevens men's basketball history, had an extremely efficient night in an 85-66 victory over St. John Fisher to give the Ducks sole possession of first place in the Empire 8 Conference.

Cook poured in 26 points and went 10 for 12 from the floor, including 6 for 8 from 3-point range, in just 21 minutes of work to lead Stevens to the win. JoJo Mosca added 14 points while Jacob Krantz led the way with eight rebounds. Stevens finished the season with a 12-4 record in E8 play and clinched the #2 seed in the conference tournament.

Jan. 27, 2016 – Wrestling Sets Program Record with 10th Straight Dual Win
The Stevens wrestling program started a streak of consecutive dual victories in the 2015-16 season that lasted nearly two full calendar years. The Ducks knocked off the United States Merchant Marine Academy 28-13 to clinch their 10th straight dual victory to break a record set in both the 1979-80 and 2011-12 seasons.

In the dual, Stevens got victories from Rob Murray, Zach Wilhelm, Victor Del Monico, Colin Navickas, Phil Woods, A.J. Kowal and Tyler Maher. The 10 straight wins ended up becoming 37 straight as the Ducks finished the 2015-16 season with four more dual victories and followed it up with a perfect 22-0 record in 2016-17. The streak finally ended in November of 2017.

Jan. 27, 2013 – Women's Swimming Notches Thrilling 148-140 Win over No. 9 TCNJ
The women's swim team notched a thrilling 148-140 victory over No. 9 The College of New Jersey on the road thanks to wins in nine total events on the day.

The Ducks started the day by winning each of the first four events, including the 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Louise Moores, Brittany Geyer, Sharon Rooker and Jennifer Rutledge, to jump out to an early lead. Stevens then went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard butterfly led by Elizabeth Heinbach's first-place time of 2:14.81 to extend the lead.

Heinbach, Moores and Marissa Douglas helped seal the win down the stretch as they won the 500-free, the 100-fly and the 200-IM, respectively to give the Ducks a win over a top-10 opponent.

Jan. 29, 2006 – Men's Volleyball Downs No. 7 Rivier, No. 9 Medaille and No. 14 Eastern Mennonite to Win Stevens Invitational
The Stevens men's volleyball team had a fantastic weekend in 2006 knocking off three top-15 opponents as a part of a perfect 4-0 weekend to take home the title in the Stevens Invitational.

The Ducks started with pool play victories over Hunter College and No. 14 Eastern Mennonite to earn the top seed in Pool 1. Stevens then knocked off No. 9 Medaille 3-1 in the semifinal match to set up a matchup against No. 7 Rivier College in the championship.

After splitting the first two sets, Stevens rallied for a pair of 30-25 victories in the third and fourth sets to clinch the win and the championship crown. Scott Stoner was named the tournament MVP for his efforts while Michael Schulte earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Jan. 30, 2008 – Enright and Dudek both Break Career School Records in win over John Jay
In a dominant 40-point victory over John Jay College, Dora Enright and Dani Dudek both broke career program records they still hold to this day.

Enright was the first to accomplish her feat as she grabbed what was her 977th career rebound in the first half to break the record held previously by Erin Horner from 1997-2002. Enright would go on to pull down 124 more rebounds in her career as she sits atop the Stevens record books with 1,101 career boards.

Not to be outdone, Dudek dished out her sixth assist of the game near the end of the half to give her 419 career assists. The assist broke the previous record of 418 held by Jean Matusiak who played from 2004-08. Only a junior, Dudek was not close to being done as she added 260 more assists to her ledger giving her 679 in her career.

The games/events noted above are not meant to be a complete listing of Stevens' events on these dates, but a sampling of great moments as determined by the Stevens Department of Athletic Communications.
