HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 30, 2021) – Under the leadership of current Director of Athletics Russell Rogers, who is in his 21st year in the position, the Stevens Institute of Technology Department of Athletics has risen to unprecedented levels of success.

Under Rogers' leadership, Stevens has finished inside the top 45 in the DIII College Directors' Cup standings 11 consecutive years including a program-best 13th-place finish in both 2010-11 and 2015-16. The Ducks also won the Jostens Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Institution of the Year Award in both 2007-08 and 2012-13, while also finishing as the Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey DIII Cup Winner in seven of the last 10 years.

The Department of Athletics will look back into the archives to reflect on the development's evolution under Rogers. Each week, key moments will be highlighted that happened "This Week in Stevens History."

The week of March 29-April 4
March 29, 2011 – Men's Volleyball Upends No. 7 Baruch in Five-Set Thriller
The Stevens men's volleyball team made a statement prior to the NECVA Tournament in 2011, knocking off No. 7 Baruch College 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 15-13) at home as four different student-athletes racked up double-digit kills.

David Evans led the way with 13 kills while Ryan Seifert produced 12 while hitting .526, Jonathan Landis hit .333 with 11 kills and Jake Modestow put down 10 kills for a whopping .643 attack percentage. The Ducks hit .308 overall in the match and would go on to advance to the in the NECVA Tournament Quarterfinals a few days later.

March 30, 2011 – Berardi and Herforth Combine for Back-to-Back No-Hitters in Doubleheader Sweep of City Tech
In just the second year of the program, the Stevens softball team accomplished a feat not many others have, tossing back-to-back no-hitters on the same day in a doubleheader sweep of New York City Tech.

Kayla Berardi and Molly Herforth combined for the first no-no as Herforth pitched three innings to pick up the win in the first contest while Berardi closed the door, striking out four of the seven batters she faced over the next two innings.

Berardi continued to set down the Yellow Jackets in the second game, with a two-out walk in the first as her only blemish. Of the 15 City Tech outs in game two, 11 were Berardi strikeouts as she became the first and only Stevens student-athlete in program history to pitch in a pair of no-hitters.

March 30, 2009 – Currie Becomes First Track and Field Athlete to Qualify for NCAA Championships
Senior Trevor Currie became the first-ever Stevens Institute of Technology track and field student-athlete to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships as he cleared 4.70 meters (15'5'') in the pole vault at the Dick Shea Invitational in March of 2011.

At the time, Currie's vault set a new school record and allowed him to finish first in the meet overall. Kevin Magora (400-hurdles) and Victor Servito (Decathalon) also set new program record in the meet in their respective events.

In the same meet on the women's side, the Ducks set a total of four school records as Salme Cook (800m), Grace Python (Hammer Throw) and Jennifer Wehof (100-hurdles) all set individual records while the 4x400-meter relay team also set a new mark.

March 30, 2007 – Women's Lacrosse Earns Thrilling 17-16 OT Victory Over Manhattanville
Sophomore Dana Perriello netted a goal with 2:40 remaining in the second overtime period to lead the Stevens women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 17-16 OT win over Manhattanville College in late March of 2007.

Tied at 14-all at the end of regulation, Stevens scored the first three goals in overtime to take control. Katie Lalli put the Ducks in front 15-14 midway through the first extra session as she scored off a feed from Perriello and, just 40 seconds later, Cassidy Callahan converted on a pass from junior attack/midfielder Kaitlyn Roes to give Stevens a two-goal edge.

Perriello then scored what would be the eventual game winner as the Valiants netted a pair of goals down the stretch but could not add any more as goalkeeper Stephanie Linder made 12 saves on the day.

March 31, 2011 – Stevens Athletics Ranked No. 12 in DIII Learfield Cup Standings After Winter Sports
After a stellar winter season on Castle Point, the Stevens athletics department climbed to 12th in the Learfield Director's Cup standings, the highest it has ever been after the winter sports season.

Women's basketball earned 25 points with their Empire 8 title and appearance in the first round of NCAA's, while wrestling earned 42 points for finishing 32nd in the nation. Men's swimming and its 14th-place finish at nationals earned 61.5 points, and women's swimming highlighted the winter seasons with a total of 73.5 points for taking sixth at the NCAA's.

In the fall, field hockey earned 53 points after taking its third Empire 8 title in as many years and advancing to the Regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. Both men's soccer and women's soccer earned 50 points by virtue of making it to the Second Round of NCAA Championship. Women's volleyball earned an at-large berth into the NCAA's and made the most of it in reaching the Regional final to net 74 total points.

March 31, 2007 – Bielicky Becomes Men's Lacrosse All-Time Leader in Career Points
Mark Bielicky made history in his senior campaign in 2007 as he became Stevens' men's lacrosse all-time leader in career points after producing a goal and an assist in a 16-6 win over Maritime College to bring his career points total to 198.

Bielicky surpassed Brian Lalli's (2001-04) previous record of 196 with over half of his senior season still to be played. Bielicky would go on to finished with 227 career points which currently ranks third all-time in program history behind only Max Bailey (303 points) and J.R. Maehler (249 points).

March 31, 2007 – Picerno Breaks Baseball's All-Time Career Wins Record
Just three seasons into his career, Scott Picerno broke the all-time record for career wins at Stevens in a 7-3 victory over St. Joseph's College as he tossed 9.0 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits to amass his 18th career win.

With the win, Picerno surpassed Mike Belz (1990-93) and Eugene Tkac (1950-52) who both totaled 17 wins in their careers in Hoboken. Picerno would go on to add four more wins in his career to finish with 22 overall and still currently sit atop the record book.

April 1, 2017 – Men's Lacrosse Rallies to Stun No. 3 Ithaca in Overtime
Training 10-6 with less than 10 minutes left to play in regulation against No. 3 Ithaca, the men's lacrosse program rattled off five consecutive goals including the game-winner from Tommy Dawson in overtime to grab an 11-10 win.

Tim Leahey, John Boutureira and Max Bailey joined Dawson (2) with goals as a part of the 5-0 run. With a little under 2:00 left to play in overtime, Dawson shook a defender and fired his third goal of the game into the back of the net to complete the comeback.

April 2, 2007 – Merriam Finishes Sixth Overall for Men's Golf at Lebanon Valley Spring Golf Tournament
Stevens golf student-athlete Tom Merriam shot a seven-over 79 to finish in a tie for sixth place amongst 114 competitors at the Lebanon Valley Spring Golf Tournament in the program's first year of existence.

Merriam posted a 40 on the front nine and a 39 on the back to lead the Ducks to a 16th-place finish as a team. It was a sign of things to come for Merriam as he went on to become a Second Team All-Empire 8 selection in his junior season.

April 3, 2017 – Men's Tennis Wins Thrilling Contest Against NYU 5-4
Ranked 13th and 14th respectively in the ITA regional rankings, the Stevens men's tennis team earned a thrilling 5-4 victory over New York University at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Ducks won two of three doubles points as Ben Foran and Shota Tasaki won on line two while Tyler Tisdale and Derek Smith took the point on line three.

In singles play, Stevens got wins from Chris Rosensteel and Tasaki while NYU won on lines three, five and six to tie things up at four. Matthew Heinrich came through in a big way, however, as he earned a 7-6 (7-0), 3-6, 6-3 victory on line two to seal the win.

April 4, 2015 – Bruno Wins Zone Championship for Equestrian to Qualify for National Meet
Stevens equestrian sophomore student-athlete Annie Bruno took first place at novice individual fences at the Zone Championships at Centenary College in 2015.

With the win, the Bruno qualified for nationals by beating out a field from five different regions of 10 total competitors.

The games/events noted above are not meant to be a complete listing of Stevens' events on these dates, but a sampling of great moments as determined by the Stevens Department of Athletic Communications.
